The Social Construction of Sex

The distinction between sex and gender has been a mainstay in feminist thought in the last half century. On that understanding, sex is a biological phenomenon, and gender is social. In my recent *Categories We Live By* I argued that sex is also a social phenomenon. In this talk I elaborate on those arguments and discuss recent objections to them and to the idea that sex is socially constructed by Alex Byrne and Jonathan Tsou.
