Description:
Intentionality is the capacity of mental states to be about, or represent, objects, properties, and states of affairs. In the seminar we will consider such issues as:
- Can intentionality be naturalized? (We will look at work by Dretske, Millikan, Fodor, and others)
- Is intentionality grounded in phenomemology?
- The nature of singular thought
- Does perception accurately represent the world?
- The role of representation in cognitive science
